Copywriting Mentorship
I’ve been fielding several inquiries this year from newer copywriters, often along the lines of “are you hiring?” No, I am not. If you’re looking for a copywriting agency, that is not me; I am a one-woman show by choice (if you’d like to hear my horror stories of trying to “scale” by hiring other copywriters and outsourcing work, ask me at my Craft n’ Copy Hour. Long story short: NEVER AGAIN.)
But, occasionally, I get asked if I mentor copywriters. Especially copywriters interested in working with coaches or service-based entrepreneurs. Because, while there are many programs training copywriters, they’re often for product-based copy, or Software-as-a-Service copy, or they’re for service-based copy but the program is big and impersonal and the instructor isn’t there to help you troubleshoot client shenanigans or show you how to polish your copy as-needed.
Mentorship is incredible for that.
Copywriting isn’t an art. It’s a trade. It can be taught and learned. But, like any trade, apprenticeship is necessary to overcome the beginner mistakes everyone makes without expert guidance. Sure, if you’re learning woodworking, you can teach yourself from Youtube videos, but you’re going to mess up a lot of wood before you figure out how shape, sand and polish your work to a professional level.
I welcome all forms of mentorship inquiries. I’ve had one young copywriter come to every Free Craft n’ Copy hour I host to pick my brain on copy, and the business of copywriting. Sometimes she’s the only one there and gets my undivided attention. I love it. You’re welcome to join if the time works for you (RSVP here).
Other copywriters, and a few in-house marketing teams, hire me to help them work on specific projects while teaching them the ropes with my Copy Coaching sessions (buy more than 1 at a time and the price is $125/coaching session). It’s really fun to work together on a project and you’ll learn so much.
I also offer low-ish-priced workshops, both live and recorded, if you’re curious about my approach to ethical copywriting for websites.
Copywriting is one of the greatest jobs in the world, and I don’t think AI is taking it over as fast as people think because when you know your trade—you can help your clients develop their ideas, refine their niches, create better offers, and embody their messaging in ways AI currently can’t. But bringing that level of guidance to the table comes with experience, or a good mentor.
Just don’t ask me to meet with you to pick my brain for free (outside of my Craft n’ Copy hour). As a successful, working copywriter and a one-woman business, I don’t have the time. And that’s the same success I wish for you too. <3
